Development of a scrolling Flash alternative
Historically the Starbucks lounge micro-sites have always been implemented in Flash and very nice they've been too. In a bid to improve accessibility and exploit subsequent benefits such as improved SEO the client wanted to explore alternatives that would not require sacrifices on the design side.
With a great new creative concept already in the bag the challenge was to develop it in such a way as to accomodate the design-critical horizontal scrolling. We were aware that the scrolling could be acheived using JavaScript, the trick was to make it as accessible as possible. To that end the site is by default a standard vertical page with panes of information stacked above one another. The trick is that if the JavaScript is implemented then a second set of stylesheets are called into play that give us the layout we need for a nice smooth scrolling site.
I'm really pretty proud of this one.
